Wow, it's been a while since I've posted andI've been busy. Since school has ended, I've done a bunch of fun things!

1) I got a grant through FIGMENT to build a mini golf hole on Governor's Island with the help of Michael Oshins,

where it will be up and FREE to play all summer long. We were vastly underprepared for what we were

getting ourselves into, but it was a great

learning experience. Here's some pictures of the finished hole. The theme was Bugs and Features this year, and Mike and I decided to make our hole a "feature". It's titled, The Golf Channel. (In real-life 3D!)

2) I acted in a feature film called The Adventures of Paul and Marian, as Teen Girl 1, alongside my good friend and roommate Minoo Allen (teen girl 2). The Adventures of Paul and Marian is a comedic independent musical directed by Jay Stern. To read more about it, you can go to

www.adventures of paulandmarian.com . The cast and crew were great and the whole thing was anawesome experience. When I wasn't acting, I was helping production designer Sarah Edkins set dress and build. The entire shoot was done on a green screen, so every foreground piece and prop had to be constructed and assembled each day. It was a lot of work , but it was so much fun!

3) Currently, I'm home in Buffalo, NY gearing up for a month long summer program in Purchase, NY that I will be helping to teach alongside comic book extraordinaire Carl Potts.

4) And on top of all that, I've been using the website sendoutcards.com to make customized cards for people. (thanks to Deena Newell who introduced me to the site!) Then I started thinking, hey, I could make cards for people! I mean, I am an amazing artist and love to draw (wink wink)!

I saw this guy at Starbucks in Greenpoint yesterday... he was sleeping on a chair, snoring, and then one of the employees brought him a cup of coffee (free!) and woke him up, saying they don't allow sleeping in the store. He woke up with a jolt and looks around, confused, looking at the coffee and the employee. He says, "I wasn't sleeping! I was just resting my eyes! I could hear everything goin on." Ahahaha la deda, I didn't write the economics paper I meant to, but it was quite funny to watch. And now I know how to get a free cup of coffee....

Puppet Fail

So, I was all planned and pumped on posting today pictures of my new puppet that I've been working on for weeks now. It is the actual working puppet of the model from my Pop Quiz post. Unfortunately, the puppet cracked in two at the waist as I was trying to get it to stand. Looks like the

wires just been twisted and jostled around too much. Also, his head was a little too heavy.

Now I'm back to square one, and am a little unsure of how to go about making a workable puppet cheaply. I can't seem to find any non drying lightweight clay, and can't think of any other material that would be better for the head and hands. If anyone has suggestions, PLEASE let me know!

Back from Adventure

So I'm back from my trip to Peru to hike the Inca Trail! I know I've said it a million and five times, but again, THANK YOU to everyone who supported the trip. It was an absolutely amazing experience.

Now I'm back in this muggy heat and I've been starting to sort through the thousands of pictures that I have.

I hope to be putting a stop motion animated video together with Michael Oshins which will give you a tour and a taste of our experience in fast forward mode. I think the video is going to be really great, so keep looking out for it!

In the meantime, I'm posting just a few of the pictures here because a lot of people have been asking to see them. Enjoy, and keep watching out for more!

This is an illustration I did a few years ago based off the poem There Was a Little Girl. I used pen and watercolor pencils.

I'm not sure what the message behind the poem is, but it was read to me all the time when I was younger.

I haven't been posting for a little while now because as the end of my school year approaches, the work load (and stress level) increases. One of the last experiments I did was a test in live action stop motion. This is a clip from one of the tests, a static "chase scene" was the idea. I'm hoping to put a cartoony illustrator graphic of a wiggling ocean in the background, but haven't tried it out yet. Let me know what you think!

Rockin' Rolling Tree

This is a rolling tree. At first glance, it looks like a sad horned puff- but do not be deceived. If you flip your perception and look at it upside down, it is a happy tree that is not rooted, but rolls on a balance ball. The rolling tree looks upside down to most humans because unlike most trees on earth, the rolling tree grows down. Rolling trees don't provide shade but a cool patch of lighted ground. If three or more people locate and sit on the cool patches, the tree will sing!

A Rare Gem

This is a Gem Laughouten. Gem's are charming little creatures. They carry themselves as if there is not a care in the world, however Gem's, out of almost all monsters, have the most worries. Gem's furry feet pick up garbage and litter. Also, when they are around children monsters who are with bickering parents, they filter the conversation or change the tones of the words. Most Gem's also carry around canortubes, which are like a hard candy. They have a bitter flavor but they help sustain warmth through the winter so you are never cold. To receive a canortube, you must tell a jiddle (joke/riddle- unique to the monster world) that the gem has never heard, and you must be smiling.

Back to Terralibi

Now that my animation is more or less done, we can travel back to Terralibi and start meeting some new creatures again.

This is a Mas Ligaml. Mas Ligaml's are funny creatures; no one knows what it is, but there is something about a Mas that is extremely intriguing. Mas's are musical monsters who like to write about edgy and current news and their feelings. However, their belly button earphones muffle their thoughts and make Mas's very confused about themselves. Mas's are very smart and confident creatures, but they seldom really know what they want. Some scientists say that Mas's look for love, acceptance and fame but those who are more friendly with them know that the only thing they ever really want is a glass of milk before every meal.

These are just a few of my favorite stills from the film. I really love developing these characters and then breathing life into them. It makes me feel like a... God or something, of my own little world.

So I have a draft of Pizza! done, but unfortunately I think the story is not coming off the way I'd like. Too many people have told me they don't get it and so I'm trying to restructure or something to make the final beat more obvious. Maybe I'll use this as a survey. Please, comment to tell me whether or not you understand it! Putting together a completely original claymation in about 3 weeks wasn't easy, and I want to continue working to make it the best it can be. Thanks so much for the feedback!

Short Clip!

Comic Relief

I realize I get more work done when I'm procrastinating listening in class. So the other day I drew up this comic in order to justify not paying attention, and figured I'd share it with the world.

Oh, and for the record, I do know that there are words that rhyme with armadillo, it just seemed like such a sad low stab at himself- I couldn't help but write it.

I built the set completely out of scrap wood, and the couch is upholstered with a sock. It's pretty cool what a band saw, paint, and hot glue can do.

Thousands of miles away from Terralibi, on the planet Earth, I've been doing a few things with claymation. I'm in the process of making a short with the tentative title, Pizza!, and I began shooting yesterday. After a full day of animating, my little clay figures were becoming disfigured and mushy, so I thought I'd take a few pictures while they're still in there prime.

Sheiladerdale, Unshielded

This is a Sheiladerdale, also known as Sheila. Sheila's love aquatics and sea creatures. They often paint deep sea fish wonderful colors or sculpt amazingly beautiful coral and algae bushes. Sheila's also make molds and pattern pushers for starfish and sea horses and give sting rays tail cuts (so they don't get too, too long). Sheila's also like painting, sculpting, and designing sea shells. Some of their best designs they send out to shores to see what humans think of it. Good responses (when people take the shells) encourage Sheila's to make more of that kind.

Meet Yilhomner

I don't exactly remember how I named this guy- the only thing I know is that the "hom" in the middle comes from the homo in "homo sapien": human.

This is a Yilhomner. Yilhomner monsters may look familiar to human form but be assured, they are nothing like humans. Each part of a Yilhomner is it's own form and creature. This Yilhomner depicted is fully structured, but many times they will be missing multiple parts. The parts always come back to the Yilhomner, however, there was one incident where a testiniso didn't return; it turned out that it joined a human road show as the most bendable creature on earth.

Out in Nomad's Land...

Since I've been spending a lot of time trying to raise money to travel, I thought this guy would be appropriate to introduce. He is a Nomadian- a traveling monster of the 93th century. Nomadians have no homes, they simply walk everywhere. Each journey they make shows up on their shoes. Old Nomadian's shoes are crammed with routes and destinations. Nomadians love beef jerky and jelly beans. They serve as a compass for other monsters and will tell you shortcuts if you give them beef jerky or jelly beans. Nomadians also love to look at the stars and carry telescopes with them at all times. Some Nomadians follow the stars and create new paths that way.

I don't mean the awesome Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episode where they throw Zach a surprise party, today actually happens to be my older brother Zak's 21st birthday. So, in celebration I'm posting a monster I made that reminds me of him.

This is a Lardrex. Some are intimidated by Lardrexes but they are very relaxed monsters. Some may be scared away by the wandering "chin whisker smile" (abbreviated CWS) but this is a Lardrexes way of showing emotion. When the CWS is placed where it is in this particular photo, the lardrex is happy. The CWS also turns upside down to be a frown, wanders up to become an eyebrow, can spread on top of it's head as hair, or even scatter out to form a fancy design. Lardrexes love oat bran, oatmeal, and egg white powder and they move by bouncing.

Labyrlock's Unlocked

The name Labyrlock is a junction of the words "labyrinth" and "lock." To unlock a Labyrlock's knowledge, you must take the time to go through it's labyrinth.

If you watched my video about hiking the Inca Trail, you might have seen a quick glimpse of a Labyrlock. If you didn't watch my video, you should. And then tell everyone you know about it.

Anyway, Labrylocks are very sneaky monsters. They are usually seen sneaking around at night, and they'll only talk to you if you get their round through their maze. (Their round is the little black ball sitting in the top left corner of the sketch above). Labyrlocks have a wealth of information, but very few monsters take the time to figure them out.

A Labyrlock's favorite food is sugar snap peas. Many think it's round is actually a pea and that if one were to eat it, they would be haunted for the rest of their lives by their closest friends deepest secrets.

The Original Arbarb Cambiat

The name Arbarb comes from the word "arbor" meaning tree, which is what the paper that this guy resembles is made out of. Cambiat comes from "cambiar" the spanish verb meaning "to change". Essentially, the Arbarb Cambiat translates to "Changing Paper."

Here's my original sketch of an Arbarb Cambiat. Arbarbs are usually nice creatures, but you also have to be careful. Arbarbs are generally seen in this form, although they are known for their ability to re-grow some part of their shell if it were to be cut or ripped. Also, their facial features can be mixed around easily and their color can change by the minute. Arbarbs are often used in security gangs and as undercover agents. They move by the wheel on their back. The wheel blows air on their backs, propelling them forward.

This is similar to our clock, but in Terralibi there are only 4 "hours" - morning is on the top left, lunch is top right, midafternoon is in the bottom left and night is on the bottom right.

So here's my sketch of Terralibi, I'm also including a cross-section and sample of a common timekeep (the equivalent of a clock). Enjoy.

Welcome to Terralibi

Just so we're all on the same page, Terralibi is pronounced Tur-AL-i-by. This is the world that all of my creatures in my Monster Encyclopedia live in. It's nothing at all like the Earth we live on, although the Map may make it seem that way. For starters, in between each land mass is a super pliable molding clay type substance- a cross breed between modeling clay and corn starch. On warm days it's sandy, on cold days its soft warm and moldy, and it's a sandpapered fleece texture on days in between. The ground of the land masses themselves are made up of tiny glass-like beads. The beads can never break, but they do absorb the temperature of the air so on warm days it's very hot, on cold days it's very cold, etc. The beads also make a euphonious clinking sound that jingles when you walk on it. All the beads are loose and would be extremely massaging to human feet.

Time in Terralibi is known by scent. There are no exact hours, only 4 time periods: morning, lunch, mid-afternoon, and night. In the morning, the air smells like rain- a little dewy, but more fresh and sweet. At lunch, the air smells like cinnamon cigar smoke. In the mid-afternoon it smells of lemon and peach, and at night the air smells like apple-y mountain fog and coffee.

I'm going to post skeleton sketch of a map of this land- only to be way further developed, colored, and written upon. The compass directions X, C-P, Z, and P are the equivalent of our N, E, S and W. They stand for Xurious, Counter-Peripheral, Zoddy, and Peripheral.
